Client Piece: Weight

Jane’s Story:

When Jane was first welcomed into our safe home after leaving her abuser of 17 years, her self-confidence was low. Our advocates worked with Jane to empower, educate, and support her as she took on new responsibilities and faced difficult choices. Though Jane’s path towards a fresh start was challenging, each choice she made took her further along in her journey and a new sense of self-confidence began to grow.

About Jane’s Piece, Weight:

“I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders with all of the new decisions that have to be made, but I know there is freedom in making any decision at all.”

Daisy’s Story:

Daisy sought support and services for herself and her two sons after she left her abusive husband. Daisy recalls the mental, emotional and physical abuse she endured. Her abuser would often tell her she was worthless, and when the abuse turned physical he told her that she had brought it on herself.

Daisy now works very hard to make sure that she and her children are safe. She wants her two boys to get as much support, love, and education as possible so that the cycle of domestic violence does not continue with them.

About Daisy’s Piece, Ghost:

“After leaving my abuser and experiencing trauma at the hands of those I thought would help me, I felt like a ghost in this world. I moved through life with no real emotions, and I wondered about my own worth. With the support of those who now know and love me, the feeling of joy and purpose is returning.”

I never thought that I would be in a domestic violence situation or that I would need the shelter’s help. The shelter has greatly impacted my life and I’m thankful that they were here to help me. My time here has opened my eyes to so much. Thank you, NWAWS, for the kindness and love I felt while in shelter. – NWAWS In Shelter Client

” I feel blessed to have had the option to seek shelter here. When I first arrived, I was nervous and scared but NWAWS has helped me regain my strength as a women and as a mother. Thank you.” – NWAWS Client, 2017

Crossmark  took some time to brainstorm how to best partner with our organization and decided to support our clients with in kind donations by way of a competitive donation drive. Together, the Crossmark teams gathered a reported 249 packages of items to donate to our clients. These 249 items had to be transported to our Thrift Store in TWO trucks! Our staff relayed how incredible it was to see this company rally behind our clients and to have donated such a large number of urgent need items. A big thank you to our partners at Crossmark! We are honored to recognize you as our Donor of The Month.

Charity Challenge of Champions

Charity Challenge of Champions graciously selected NWAWS as their charity recipient for their 26th year of the event. This event spanned six days and featured a Run for Courage, Tennis Tournament, Golf Tournament, and social activities all aimed at providing a unique way to merge fun, sports, and supporting NWA residents in need.

Saturday night an NWAWS outreach client courageously shared her story with attendees in a moving testimony of abuse and restoration that she has found through support like what the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter offers. Thank you to everyone who listened to her story and showed her love and support.

Final numbers are not yet in, but all funds raised will support NWAWS clients as they work to rebuild their lives.

Ozark Off-Road Adventure

Every other year the Ozark Off-Road Club donates the proceeds from their Ozark Off-Road Adventure to the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter and this year saw some amazing growth for the club and the event! The club is made up of 150+ off-road adventurers and the event is a three-day long gathering in Pineville, Missouri that features family fun, the outdoors, and every off-road activity imaginable.

This super-friendly hobby group is always so much fun to work with (even more so when they take the Executive Director out for an off-road spin)! The final amount raised will be announced in October, but at this point OORA estimates $15,000 was raised in support of our clients and programs.
