$1,000,000 of community support per year starting in 2017

Contrary to what many think, the NWAWS only receives about 17% of its total funding from state and federal government sources. The remainder must be raised in our community. We do this through our Thrift Store (roughly 20% of our gross annual income) as well as fundraising events, individual & business giving, and foundation grants. Currently we must raise $60,000 per month from the community (excluding the Thrift Store and government grants) to meet our needs. Historically, we have failed to communicate this need to the community.

What can I do? Give.

There are many different ways you can help our Shelter. Please review the giving options below. If you have additional questions, please contact us. Your assistance and support are greatly appreciated.

“We are safe here. My children and I can go to sleep and not be afraid. The Shelter provides a support system to help us rebuild our foundation when our house (our life) has crumbled.”
– Shelter Client

The Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter exists to provide a safe haven for women, children, and men who are escaping the trauma of domestic and sexual violence. We work each day to support victims of violence on their journeys to build lives free of violence . . . for themselves and their families, now and in the future.

Your monthly gift of $50 when you join the “Builders of Hope” helps women, children, and men as they take the first step to begin rebuilding their lives, without the fear of abuse or physical violence.

Thank you for joining “Builders of Hope” with a recurring, monthly gift of $50!

Donating to the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter will transform not only the lives of victims of violence right here in your community, it will also transform your life.

Becoming a donor gives you a direct role in building a more peaceful community. You will receive insider information about the NWA Women’s Shelter and updates on how the shelter has served the community and, most importantly, you will learn and understand what your donation has accomplished. We are committed to transparency and accountability to our donors.

Your donations are vital to us. We rely on financial gifts from the community to support our services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Thank you for your interest in hosting a third-party fundraising event or drive to benefit the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter (NWAWS)!

Third-Party Events are any activity by an individual, organization, or group that raises money or collects items for NWAWS with little to no involvement of the NWAWS staff.

Because of the volume of these requests, we cannot personally participate in each event that is proposed, but we can help promote the event and provide materials, when feasible.

We greatly appreciate your support of our clients and programs!

Plan a Third-Party Fundraising Event

On average, we must raise $60,000 of community support each month in order to allow us to sustain our programs. Many of these funds come from individuals or smaller third-party events, and we would love to be a part of yours! Please click here to review our Third-Party Proposal and then submit completed proposals to Shelli Cathcart, Executive Director.

Ideas for Third-Party Fundraisers:

  • Name NWAWS as the beneficiary of your organization’s golf tournament
  • Celebrate special life events (birthdays, weddings, anniversaries) with donations directed to NWAWS
  • Host a wine and cheese party with friends and colleagues
  • Plan a walk/run or other outdoor event
  • Ask local restaurants or other businesses for a percentage of sales, tips, or collection of donations

*Please fill out a proposal form prior to promoting your third-party fundraising event. Together, we will discuss your plan and provide guidance for success!

Plan a Third-Party Drive

Imagine finding out that you won’t be able to return to you home tonight, not even to pick up important belongings. That is the situation many of our clients find themselves in when they come to NWAWS. With your help, we strive to always be able to supply the tangible items that our moms, dads, and children need to get settled during their stay.

Ideas for Third-Party Drives:

  • Organize a drive in your office for specific items (children’s items, baby products, ethnic products, perishable foods, towels, etc.) — see current needs for ideas.
  • Clean-out your closet and challenge your friends to do the same, with all donations going to the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter Thrift Store

If you are interested in organizing a drive for the public, contact Antonella Kinder, Volunteer & In-Kind Gift Coordinator, to reserve one of our special product donation boxes: akinder@nwaws.org or 479-246-0353, ext. 250.

*Please fill out a proposal form prior to promoting your third-party fundraising drive. Together, we will discuss your plan and provide guidance for success!

Whether as a one-time donor, or a monthly sustaining donor, your support (no matter the size) counts. Donate online, mail a check, or call to make a donation over the phone. Even $25 a month adds up. That would provide three safe nights each year ($25×12=$300).

If 1,000 people in NWA gave this amount it would total $300,000 in one year. Even the smallest donations can make the biggest differences.
