Finn’s parents were often called the perfect couple. Finn’s father was handsome and charming. His mother was fun and outgoing. Behind closed doors, Finn’s father was controlling, jealous and physically abusive. Over time, the abuse escalated and his father’s abusive behaviors started spilling out from behind the closed doors of their family home. Finn’s mother left after a particularly explosive incident at their family home. Finn (age 12) remembers nights when he and his sister would wake up to sound of their parents fighting and things in their home being broken. Finn says that he tried really hard to keep his sister distracted by playing games and watching videos.
