February is the month of love, and we recognize that love shouldn’t hurt. Someone you care about and who claims to care about you should build you up, encourage you, and support you. With 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experiencing abuse, for so many individuals, “love” has a tarnished meaning.
These numbers are even higher in the LGBTQ+ community. Bisexual women are at the highest risk of domestic violence, roughly 50 percent of transgender individuals experience some form of sexual violence in their life time, and LGBTQ+ individuals experience a higher rate of violence than heterosexual individuals in general.
To raise awareness and funds for this important issue, we held our first annual NWAWS Benefit Drag Show on February 22, 2020.
